Calgary Canada- “the Bow” is the largest office tower in Canada outside of Toronto and expected to be completed in the fall of 2011.
At a height of 774 feet the building has been noted as one of the most significant mixed use buildings in North America. The building is being constructed of Q-deck (floor & ceiling) construction which can be a difficult material to suspend utilities such as piping, duct and HVAC systems since web thicknesses vary due to the material shape and drilling overhead through metal form decking with concrete can be costly.
Arpi's Industries of Calgary, Alberta who was responsible for the mechanical work consulted with Powers for a better fastening solution. Powers Bang-It precast metal deck inserts anchors specially designed for “concrete pours over metal deck” were chosen as the ideal solution because they install into the metal Q-deck prior to each floors concrete pour.
The Bang It anchors provide significant savings over drill and anchor options- while maintaining a high load. Since the anchors were installed in the metal formwork before hand, rod installation for piping and utilities could be installed while the building floors were being added, speeding installation of the entire project.
The building was designed by Foster and Partners (London) and Zeidler (Calgary), developed by Matthews Southwest and the General Contractor is Ledcor.
